Yuba and Currie Tech announce the new Spicy Curry electric cargo bike!
In a first-ever collaboration, Currie Technologies® and Yuba Bicycles have joined forces to create a long-tail cargo e-bike, dubbed the Spicy Curry. The bike will be unveiled during a special event at the 2015 Sea Otter Classic, April 16 - 19, 2015 in Monterey, California, where a fleet of them will also be available for test riding.
"The Spicy Curry demonstrates the best of Currie Tech's and Yuba's core competencies," explains Larry Pizzi, president of Currie Tech. "Yuba is unmatched in its ability to design and engineer a long-tail cargo bike that rides well, and Currie Tech's proprietary Electro-Drive® propulsion system provides better torque than any other drivetrain. Together, the frame and drivetrain combine to form an ideal transportation solution."
The collaboration between Currie Tech and Yuba began less than a year ago, when Pizzi met Yuba Bicycles' founder and owner Benjamin Sarrazin at the 2014 Sea Otter Classic. The two men quickly saw the appeal and mutual benefit of working together on the design, sale, and aftermarket service of an electric, long-tail cargo bike.
Created for people who prefer to travel by bicycle, but desire both cargo-carrying ability and the boost of an electric motor, the Spicy Curry is powerful and practical. Marketed as a Yuba-branded bicycle, its name gives a playful, deliberate nod to Currie Tech, as well as the "spiciness" of traveling by electric bicycle.
The bike features an extra-long cargo rack, mounted over a 20-inch rear wheel for better stability. Enhancing its low center of gravity is Currie Tech's bottom bracket-mounted Electro-Drive® 350-watt electric motor, which offers four levels of pedal-assist with speeds of up to 20 miles per hour.
"What's ideal about this bike," describes Sarrazin, "is that it truly gives people the ability to give up their cars for trips to their kids' schools, the grocery store, or any series of errands. There's a safe, stable place to put the cargo, and smooth, reliable power to make those trips efficient and help with pedaling the extra weight around."
A special Spicy Curry launch party will be held at Sea Otter on Saturday, April 18, 5-6 p.m. in the Currie Tech booth (#502).
"We couldn't be more pleased with this venture," concludes Pizzi. "The Spicy Curry delivers an amazing ride and really opens up a whole new category for [electric bikes]."
The Spicy Curry will be available for $4,500.00 USD at authorized Yuba Bicycles and Currie Tech dealers.
